Qld: Union seeking info on retrenchments amid secrecy claims

The Queensland Public Sector Union will tomorrow seek details of 2,000 retrenchmentsamid claims of state government secrecy.

QPSU general secretary ALEX SCOTT says the union has been forced to seek details ofVoluntary Early Retirements (VER) through the Queensland Industrial Relations Commissionbecause the state government hasn't provided details.

Mr SCOTT says the failure to consult the union is a breach of the Industrial Relations Act.

The government is offering VER packages to 2,000 public sector workers, in an effortto afford pay rises without increasing taxes.

The VER offers have been made in two rounds of 1,000 each with the first made in Juneand the second two weeks ago.

Mr SCOTT says the union will also seek to clarify rumours that a third group of redundancieswill be offered.

The QPSU will meet in the commission at 2pm tomorrow.
