Watermelon flesh is red, cantaloupe is orange and honeydew is green. Right?

Wrong.

Now honeydew melons come with orange flesh, too.

Hybrid melons that have come to market only in recent years, these look like a honeydew on the outside, but look and smell like a cantaloupe inside. They're often sold next to the regular honeydews and are labeled `orange fleshed.`

Of course, they cost more than your green honeydew; we saw them for $3.99 each last week, but they have advantages. If you ate an orange-fleshed honeydew with your eyes closed, you'd swear it was a cantaloupe, but the texture is firmer. Not mushy like a cantaloupe but not crisp …
