Court: No proof repair caused fire.(Brief Article)

A divided Mississippi Court of Appeals panel has tossed out an $18,217 verdict against a dealership for its alleged negligence in repairing an air conditioning system.

The majority found insufficient evidence for the jury's conclusion that Weathersby Chevrolet Co. in Indianola, Miss., had done the work improperly.

According to the court, an employee of Redd Pest Control Inc. brought a company-owned 1994 Chevrolet S10 pickup to the dealership, complaining the air conditioning unit turned on and off itself. A Weathersby mechanic replaced the air conditioner control panel.

The air conditioning system worked well after the repair, the court said. …
